Mindfulness. This is both the backbone and the breath of Miraval. As we enter the spring season and our minds turn once more towards renewed vows of self-care and the intent to improve I can’t help but lovingly linger in thoughts of this magical place.
There, all seems possible: health, forgiveness, joy, freedom, creativity... It is specifically engineered to be a place of rebirth and redemption. An expert team of specialists are on hand to guide one through the inner journey to liberation and love while treatments range from Ayurvedic poultices to crystal energy healing, acupuncture, Reiki, and a lavish range of more traditional massages, scrubs, and wraps, all of course, with a special twist that make them unique to this incredible place.
Miraval is one of the world’s premiere destination spas. Located in the bosom of the Sonoran desert on 400 acres just north of Tucson, AZ, Miraval incorporates award-winning cuisine with an extensive program of self-development and fitness classes for a full mind-body-soul experience.
I spent four luxurious days here and can personally attest as to why it is consistently ranked among the best by Conde Nast, Travel + Leisure, and SpaFinder along with many others. I will admit that I’ve never cried leaving a place before, but I found my face wet with tears upon our departure.
There is so much love here. It is in the balmy nights and starry skies, the flicker of the fire, and a staff member’s smile. The entire experience is designed to bring guests to the beautiful, effervescent Now and to give them the tools to continue to live in the moment once returned to their lives.
Every detail is lovingly, thoughtfully arranged. The rooms are elegant in their simplicity with a warm earthiness that connects to the stark majesty of the desert landscape, bathrooms too, in a wonderful caramel marble. The deep soaking tub, filled to the brim with ESPA bubbles, was my preferred way of ending the evenings, while the child in me delighted in falling back arms open to sink deep, deep into the plush duvet...snowy softness billowing up to envelop head-to-toe.
I had so many transformative moments here it is difficult to know where to begin in recounting them. One of their signature experiences is equine therapy with Wyatt Webb in “It’s Not About the Horse.” I joined the ranks of Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, and Mel Gibson among Fortune 500 CEOs and countless others in getting Wyatt’s dose of tough cowboy love.
“How are you feeling?” Wyatt squints up at me, arms folded across his brown leather vest, one cowboy boot kicked up on the stool he’s commandeered as throne of this arena.
